what is the moustache calendar?
The Moustache Calendar is a fine art calendar featuring men and their moustaches. It's a year round celebration of fine upper lip hair growth and an annual project of Ricky Chapman, along with various collaborators, friends, interns, etc...
There have been four official editions thus far, and we hope many more to come. HistoryThe Moustache Calendar originally began in late 2004 as a crazy idea dreamt up by two college roommates who needed to raise money for airfare to Hawaii. It was quick, low-budget, and dirty. "Moustaches and Soulpatches" featured a group of Bible college students whose moustaches ranged from thick and healthy to a variety of barely there "dirt 'staches". Regardless of the quality of their wings, they all put forth a great effort, and made some fantastic images.
The calendar was a success; they made it to Hawaii. In early 2009, Ricky Chapman decided to revisit The Moustache Calendar, and with the help of some good friends, work began on the indelible SEX-CONFIDENT, The Moustache Calendar 2010. SEX-CONFIDENT featured, and was a collaboration with, students at the Rhode Island School of Design. For The Moustache Calendar 2011, mugshots were taken of the "80's" most desirable "law-breakers". It was called MOST WANTED and featured a selection of men from all over: artists, designers, musicians, teachers, students, fathers, husbands, sons, and more. |
