what is the moustache calendar?
The Moustache Calendar originally began in late 2004 as a crazy idea dreamt up by two college roommates who needed to raise money for airfare to Hawaii. It was quick, low-budget, and dirty. "Moustaches and Soulpatches" featured a group of Bible college students whose moustaches ranged from thick and healthy to a variety of barely there "dirt 'staches". Regardless of the quality of their wings, they all put forth a great effort, and made some fantastic images.
The calendar was a success; we made it to Hawaii.
It's been five years since that first effort - and I(Ricky) have since worked all over the world photographing music, my own fine art, travel, weddings, etc... All the while, I've maintained my appreciation for a sexy 'stache - but haven't found the time or the right group of people with whom to truly celebrate the moustache.
Until now.
I have for a few years been quite involved with the community at RISD(Rhode Island School of Design), and earlier this year, talk began again of a student calendar. I wanted to do something collaborative that would include past and present students who I know and love. This time it was serious, and planning started for a top quality, fine art moustache calendar: "SEX-CONFIDENT".
My wife Amy(a RISD alum), a few current students, and myself have worked tirelessly on the concepts, photographs, design, and layout of this new calendar - and I am extremely pleased.
From here, my goal is that The Moustache Calendar will be an annual publication dedicated to bringing you the best in moustache attitude, sex appeal, and style.
